Legendary photographer in the snowboarding community and Co-founder of the Swedish audio tech wonder Zound Industries (Now Marshall Group) Vincent Skoglund is no stranger to action filled endeavours. When he approached us with an intriguing idea to create a Snow surf, essentially a bindingless snowboard, we saw the potential for innovation and excitement.
We have had the go-ahead to share their project in the making, offering a glimpse into our prototyping process. Whether it’s a sports component or a car detail, the steps remain the same:
- Supporting the client in exploring design possibilities.
- Calculating weight, strength and material thickness.
- Developing prototyping tools.
- Conducting initial test shots in the lab press.
- Initial edge milling.
- Prototype tests.
”Finding the inspiring material Papershell made me want to make a snow surf. The properties of the Papershell material was just perfect for this. The sustainability focus and possibility of a hard 3D, composite material, with a nice finish, straight out of the press made me push the button. Now looking back at the process of getting to a first factory prototype I am convinced, this is a revolutionary material and production process. Now moving on to the next steps in making the Paper°Surf is very exciting. Free your feet and your soul will follow”
Vincent Skoglund
Moving forward, the next steps are as follows:
- Redesigning based on test results.
- Iterating until achieving perfection in form and feel.
- Finding the right surface expressions and trims.
- Finalising the product.
- Production tools.
- Configuring the automated lines for production
- Series production of the product.
This condensed summary captures the essence of our journey. Stay tuned for more on this project!
