Circular bio economy
Towards a circular bio economy
Inspired by nature’s 3.8 billion years of bio intelligence we build back paper to a high tech, artificially engineered wood that upgrades our clients’ materials in their products like press moulded veneer, plastics, fiber composites and sheet metals to sustainable bio tech solutions. PaperShell is derived from and designed for a circular bio economy. We’re a diverse and purpose-driven team cross breeding design, science and industrial technology. To maximize our sustainable impact we are doing all in our power to reach net zero and carbon positive working with nature and biodiversity goals. We only want to work with colleagues, suppliers, partners and clients who share this ambition. We believe in revitalising and building on the ideas from the Industrial Revolution but with a sustainability focus where science meets art, and finance supports nature. From nature to future and back again.
PaperShell is not another panel discussion, sustainability workshop, publicly funded cluster or conceptual art project. PaperShel all about industrialisation scale-up together with global Fortune 500 companies and avant-garde brands. Why? Because all of us have a few years left to solve the mess we have put ourselves in ie reaching goals within Agenda 2030, COP 21 and COP 15. Less talk and more action. Less guilt and more aiming for Garden of Eden: People, Planet, Profit, Pleasure.
Carbon net zero and beyond
We offer and support our clients circular bio economy solutions: by closing the loop we can utilise technologies such pyrolysis (bio char) or even mycelium to convert PaperShell components EoL into soil, focusing on its effective utilisation for biodiversity promotion and carbon capture (sequestration). Establishing sustainable business models and bio up cycling potentials such as reforestation, agroforestry, financial aspects such as carbon credits and the like. Creating soil that stores up to 1 kg of biogenetic carbon per kg returned component of PaperShell in the ground is where the true circular bio economy lays.
Our materials are 100% fossil free, storing 1,51 kg of biogenetic ie “atmospheric” carbon per kg ready made component. Or putting it in other words; materials that comes from plants and trees have constructed themselves by the carbon in the atmosphere, water in the ground and energy from the sun. All thanks to nature’s ground breaking innovation of photosynthesis. The source for these building blocks are completely different to materials such as plastics, fibre composites and metals, how either come from oil in the ground or extraction of mountain ore. Enabling the possibility for components made out of PaperShell to be returned to nature end of life. It also opens up for solutions to store atmospheric carbon in the ground, so called carbon sequestering reaching carbon net zero and beyond.
However carbon is not everything. We at PaperShell want to reach further and work towards restoring and enhancing bio diversity through bio upcycling. By closing the loop together with you, our clients, we can utilise technologies such pyrolysis (bio char) and/or mycelium to convert PaperShell components EoL into soil, focusing on its effective utilisation for biodiversity promotion and carbon capture (sequestration).
We continuously work with research institutes, biologists, recyclers to push the boundaries. As an example, we have prepared 10 test arenas for bio upcycling and sequestering outside our new factory.
