PaperShell has an inherited natural fire protection. Initial fire tests show that we have the same fire classification as wood. We are aiming for fire rating classification B and further fire rating tests are carried out during Q1 2024 and will be presented here thereafter.

Our materials are 100% fossil free and as PaperShell production is highly automated and energy efficient the Green House Gas (GHG) emissions or “CO2 costs” to produce one kg ready made component is exceptionally low.
A rule of thumb is a 2 mm thick component in PaperShell has the same weight and strength as a press molded component of 1 mm aluminium. In comparison, a PaperShell component will have >98% less environmental impact, >10% lower in price. So, by switching materials in a new or existing project substantial environmental gains can be achieved fast and long before 2030.
With the introduction of a circular bio-systems approach and possible take-back systems, PaperShell significantly advances toward achieving carbon neutrality and potentially carbon negativity.

Design freedom and Dimensions.
PaperShell Facade panels offer a versatile and aesthetic solution for exterior cladding. Our panels provide the freedom to customize and express creativity in designing the exterior facade of both residential and commercial buildings. Panels are manufactured for CC60 or CC90 or a combination thereof which ensures easy installation and adaptability to building standards. We have a base design but you as an architect can also design your own flat or 3D panel with unique design, shape and aesthetics. The shapes you can make in alumi- nium or origami, you can make in PaperShell. By Q2 2024 bigger panel sizes will be available, up to maximum size 1 x 2 meters.

Natural resillience and Maintenance.
Our panels offer very low maintenance cost and long service life compared to regular wood. No painting or surface treatment is needed. The material turns silver grey over time but will regain it’s natural brown if treated with natural linse seed oils and the like.
Material naturally incorporates car- boxylic acids to enhance durability and weather resistance. These organic compounds contribute to the creation of self-cleaning surfaces, reacting with pollutants for easy removal and reducing maintenance needs. The inclusion of carboxylic acids ensures our biomaterial is not only environmentally friendly but also highly functional, setting new standards in sustainable architecture.

Prepatory work and Mounting.
Mounting these facade panels on the wall is a straightforward and efficient process. The panels are designed with integrated installation features that simplify the task for builders and contractors. It’s mounted on the outside of building blocks with a hat profile, designed for wrapped mounting. The fastening is done with screws from the bottom left corner of the wall to the upper right corner.
FAQ
How do the panels stand up to the weather?
The panels are UV resistant, rain and moisture resistant and initial tests show that there will be very little growth.
How does the appearance of the material change over time?
Indoor it stays the same. Outdoor, without any surface treatment, it turns silver grey like wood in 3-6 months, but without the performance loss found in wood.
How thick/think can the material get?
Our normal span is 1,5 to 5 mm thick but we can produce parts that are 0,5 mm and all the way up to 20 mm.
