PaperShell was a part of Polestar Day 2023 in Los Angeles redefining automotive sustainability.
In the realm of automotive industry operations, transparency is not a commonplace occurrence, particularly in the discreet domains of design, advanced engineering, and research and development. Polestar, however, stands out as an exception by extending an invitation to partners for a revealing showcase of ongoing material co-development projects. These initiatives are pushing the boundaries of industrializing avant-garde sustainability, addressing the rigorous demands of the automotive industry.
Under the umbrella of their unequivocal moonshot project, Polestar 0 Project, which is dedicated to achieving carbon net zero and surpassing such targets, we at PaperShell take great pride and humility in being selected as one of the partner exhibitors in the material innovation zone. Alongside notable entities like SSAB showcasing fossil-free steel hybrit, Hydro presenting recycled aluminum, and Dama BioPlastics highlighting biochar, our involvement underscores a commitment to advancing sustainable practices.
“The Polestar 0 Project support our moon shot goal, to produce a truly climate neutral car by 2030. Of course, we can’t be sure we pull it off but what matters here is starting, getting to work. There is three phases to this project. Research, applied science and product development. Right now, we are focusing on the hardest part, finding new solutions that yet not exist, identifying sources of CO2e and eliminating them. In the material innovation zone you can engage with some of the companies we are working with, Hydro, SSAB, PaperShell and Dama Bioplastics.”

The main stage featured insights into Polestar’s journey with Bcomp flax-fiber composites, This not only communicated a clear message but also emphasized the distinction between merely narrating stories and actively transforming them into tangible reality.
The breakout sessions delved into discussions about the challenges, possibilities, and material distinctions related to circular economy and bio based solutions. The insights gained from these sessions proved to be immensely valuable.
Ultimately, the collective understanding emerged that embracing transparency is imperative. Collaborating across value chains, integrating disciplines such as design, engineering, production, science, biology, and finance, is essential for effectively addressing the sustainability challenges confronting us all.
